In honor of National Donut Day, Tank wanted me to post our recipe for doggie donuts!
You will need either a donut pan or a donut press (like the classic George Forman Grille, but it cooks mini donuts instead of burgers). Bake times will vary depending on your bake method.
And don't forget the best part....the carob icing! Don't worry, we won't tell if you try one or two along with your pup.
Donut Ingredients:
1 Egg
1/4 cup Canned Sweet Potato or Pumpkin (not the pie mix with extra spices, etc).
1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce
1/2 Tbs Honey
1/2 Tbs Coconut Oil
1/3 cup oat flour
Donut Directions:
*Preheat oven to 350 degrees F if you are using a donut pan
*Preheat donut press if you are using one
1. Whip the egg using a blender on high speed (with the lid on) for 1 minute.
2. Add sweet potato. applesauce, honey, coconut oil to the blender and mix until combined
3. Add the oat flour and mix for 1 minute on lowest speed.
4. Pour batter into donut pan or donut press. Fill 3/4 of each cavity as these cakes do not rise very much.
5. If using a donut pan in the oven: bake at 350 degrees for
*Large/Human Size Donuts 20-30 minutes
*Mini Donuts 10-15 minutes.
If using a donut press, then once the lid is closed it will signal they are finished with a light on the top of the machine (similar to a waffle press).
Donuts are done when an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
Icing Ingredients:
1/4 cup Cornstarch
4 Tbs Carob
1 Tbs Honey
2-3 Tbs Water
Icing Directions
1. Mix the cornstarch and carob together in a small mixing bowl
2. Add the honey
3. Add water 1 tablespoon at a time and mix until the icing is a glossy, syrup-like consistency
4. Dunk the tops of the donuts in the icing and place on a drying rack or plate
5. You can place iced donuts in the fridge for the icing to harden faster
6. GIVE YUMMY DONUTS TO YOUR PUP!
