The Barkery will temporarily stop production from Dec 11th until late January as our family moves and celebrates the holiday season. Thank you for the support. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
Our Ingredients
Tanker Tots Natural Dog Treats are made of human grade ingredients. This means that top-quality ingredients are purchased from the human food marketplace. We make the dog treats this way because we think our pets deserve the best quality treats. Read on to learn more about what goes into Tanker Tots Natural Dog Treats!
Millet
Millet is a yellow colored, tiny pearl shaped, gluten free grain with a nutty texture and taste. In this part of the world it is a regional crop that is farmed in the midwest and western United States. We have found that many canines with generic grain reactions (a non-medical term for suspected allergies) can tolerate millet and you may not know because it is rarely in pet food. Shhh...don't tell the others our secret!
Millet is one of the healthiest grain options with characteristics such as high digestability, high levels of antioxident activity, and a low glycemic index. At our bakery, whole grains of millet are ground using a grain mill to make millet flour. We use millet in Tanker Tots so hopefully dogs with sensitive stomachs, diabetes, or allergies will have a treat option. If any of these conditions apply, please check with your veterinarian prior to feeding any new food or treat.
Sweet Potato
Sweet Potatoes are an orange colored flesh potato with a sweet, almost dessert like taste. Our sweet potatoes are grown, pureed, and packaged by a farmer owned company in North Carolina. They package the puree using a patented microwave technology so that the product retains its nutritional value, flavor, and color without using additives or preservatives. Pretty cool- huh?
Getting the sweet potato puree from this state-of-the-art manufacturer is great because the nutrional benefits of sweet potato are immense! High antioxident levels, anti-inflammatory nutrients, and blood-sugar regulating properties make sweet potatoes a super food. Dogs loving the taste of these vegetables is a bonus!
Eggs
We use chicken eggs in our recipe for baking purposes. Eggs provide structure and leavening when put into baked goods. Since dogs should not eat baking soda or baking powder, this ingredient has an important role in our recipe. Besides being utilitarian, eggs are an excellent source of protein. They have a variety of vitamins and minerals, and are high in omega 3 fatty acid. All of these factors can have the added benefit of a shiny, healthy looking coat!
Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a spice that we add to our dog treats for great, natural flavor. The yummy aroma of cinnamon is sure to catch the attention of your dog. Some research shows that this spice can help to lower blood sugar. This spice has also been shown to help heart health by lowering triglycerides after a fatty meal.
Peanut Butter
Have you ever met a dog that doesn't love peanut butter? We certainly have not! It is unfortunate that most peanut butter is made with alot of added sugar and salt, which makes it extremely unhealthy for dogs. That is why we make our peanut butter from scratch! Raw unsalted peanuts are purched seasonally from a Virginia farm and shipped directly to Tanker Tots in bulk. We grind them up with peanut oil to make the freshest and most canine friendly peanut butter to flavor our treats.
Banana
Bananas are a tropical fruit that pack a ton of benefits for the gut. Research shows that bananas can help with many common stomach or intestinal tract problems. They are high in fiber which helps with bowel motility. Since bananas are rich in potassium they will help replenish the body after "the runs". Seriously, what pet owner hasn't dealt with that problem! Bananas also can help to soothe stomach ulcers, as they are a natural antacid. But honestly, we think the dogs just go bananas for the sweet, yummy taste!
Cheddar Cheese- Dehydrated
Cheese seems to be another one of those foods that dogs go crazy over. We get our soy free dehydrated cheddar from a family owned dairy company. Some dogs can't reliably digest lactose in dairy products because they often lack an enzyme called lactase. If you notice that your dog has gas after eating dairy products, then they fall into this lactose intolerant category. Tanker Tots uses dehydrated cheddar cheese so that it can be used in a very small amount with the purpose of appealing to dogs that are picky eaters.
